Best Class for PvP.
Hey guys.
i was thinking of posting this in the PvP area but there does not seem to be a place for it. So here are my two questions. 1) what is the class/profession for PvP. 2) would it be best to start a character from new or make a PvP character to get the most out of it and end up with the best PvP character? Keep in mind im purchasing Factions. Thankyou Sendrent *Equips Flame shield just incase* |

Whatever your best at will be the best pvp class for you.
Starting a PvP char would be the best choice as well. |

Im sorry to tell you but you wont be able to get into any high level competitve form of pvp with just factions, You need to have all 3 campaigns because of the skills and different professions used to play in "builds". Now im sure you didnt understand anything that I ve just said so to put it simple
you need prophecies, factions and Nightfall to do gvg/ha/ta. |

As far as pvp goes.....the class every group needs is a monk. You can be heal or you can be prot, but if you want to pvp a lot, monk is the way to go. Quote:
Geez people, what's with you? The OP asked for honest opinions, not for you all to show how ignorant and mean spirited you can be. Last edited by Savio; Dec 14, 2006 at 03:26 PM // 15:26.. Reason: reference to deleted post |

Ele's atm are really popular because of nightfall and the elite searing flames theres a lot of pvp teams based around these and these builds also work well in pve.. Only prob with a ele is they are vunerable, you need to stay behind someone or have a good monk |

With the monk is the main reason they are wanted i am guessing is because of their healing?
Nothing to do with damage dealing? |

Nothing to do with damage dealing? Monks can do 4 things mainly, Heal - every main mission and group kinda require one of these mostly 2 as you go further Prot - these ar enot as comman as heal but are still pretty good for healing and to reduce damage and stuff, most skills here use more energy though. Bonding- uses a bit of everything, you just stick loads of skills on people and stand around spamming blessed sig and this it Smiting - can do a lot of damage and have a lot of high damage aoe skills 55hp mokning is pretty popular since the start basically the mokn goes prot/heal/and smite to stay alive and kill everything alone so they are scary sometimes |

(as much detail as possible :P ) B) if i just got factions would i still be able to Pvp alot/have fun/join a pvp guild? A) First chapter(prophesies(sp?)) - has all basic skills and here you cant really enjoy pvp much because the teams require factions and nf skills mainly but there are still teams that use this, but theres some skills that you can get here that you cant in other campains which is a major letdown for characters like ele which use a mixture of all 3 most the time. Second chapter (factions) introduces aliance battles which is 12 v 12 battles vs players, however to join this you need to join a guild not to sure if every guild hall has this but i know taht you need to have a guild hall in your guild, you speak to aperson he takes you there, this chapter has a lot of pvp skills that are used in nowadays builds such as double dragon and starburst, although starbursters have died out i went against one in pvp a few days ago.. And the 3rd chapter(nightfall) this is mainly popular because the skills are slightly better and a bit over powered in some cases like searing flames and other skills like sandstorm are really liked, also pargons and dervishs are wanted a lot in pvp for thier avatars and shouts. Best detail i can do sorry. B) you can pvp as much as you want, in 12 v 12 you dont really get set builds you get your own build and just go in so thats always fun, however going as monk would be fine in pvp but you may not be able to join much team based builds as they have nf/tyrian reqs as well.. All chapters provide fun espcially the affiliated in factions because they explode and do xtra damage to you so its fun to see if you can stay alive, however teams are sort of getting harder to find now you do have to stand around sometimes. And finally getting a guild is avilable to all profesions and you can join whatever type of guild you want just ask to join a pvp based guild and some guilds havea req others dont and a lot of people are still willing to help even if your not in thier guild. |

For the OP:
If you are looking to get into PvP, I would suggest reading the forums and learning the ins and outs of the various builds. For example, 2 characters that may be a good place to start: 1. Monk - There are many monk builds to choose from, start somewhere easy like Word of Healing or Boon Prot. Read about weapon swapping once you start to get the hang of it. Don't use healing breeze! 2. Warrior - Learn builds like a shock/axe warrior or run a warrior with plague touch. Sword, axe, and hammer all have their own advantages. Once you get better, start reading about adrenaline spikes and speed buffs. Don't use a monk secondary in PvP. 3. Mesmer - Mesmers, while used little in PvE, are a primary target in PvP because of the amount of damage they can do to a team through various ways. Learn how to use illusion magic first - its a bit easier. Then move into domination, learn how to time Diversion, look for weapon swapping monks, and running E-Denial builds and interrupts. 4. Elementalists - They are used more and more, just read the forums. The builds are not hard to use, energy management is a bigger concern here. Hope this helps! You don't need to worry about what class you play in PvP, you can recreate PvP characters with any profession and stats you like.
Now that they got rid of premades, I don't recommend you start with a PvP character. Play through the PvE campaign at least once to unlock skills and runes and weapon upgrades, and also learn the game. PvP is a harsh environment to start playing if you've never played before. |
